Tribute to Dodgily Installed Router

(download)
This is an audio art installation and social interactive experiment, right. I saw less well thought out 'art' as part of the Manchester International Festival, and this took me at least 12 minutes to put together so just about the same amount as sticking a guy in a security uniform in the corner of a room and calling it an exhibit.

It was only a matter of time until someone stuck a 1st generation iPod nano to a USB hub and an active speaker and filled it with Malcolm X speeches and new age meditation music. Today is that day.

A standard wall-wart plug in adaptor powers the hub, which then perpetually and sustainably (thanks to the miracle of a mains electricity socket) powers the iPod and speaker. It also allows for connection of a standard USB cable to put music onto the iPod, but that would of course be tampering with my art and someone would have to feel the business end of a big fat marker which would write 'non appreciative moronic fucktard' on their forehead.

Inspired by and installed in the 3rd floor corridor adjacent the 100% reliable wifi router and light-saber style aerial serving the mill. Come and view the installation while you can, this contraption is set free into the world, and will certainly be stolen by someone lurking around the toilets too often.
