The Music From Showreel 2011

No_time
I had big plans for a 2011 showreel, but of course no-one ever gets time to work on their own marketing material, and much of my favorite work is hidden for all time under a stack of non-disclosure agreements which I vaguely remember signing.

I produced a completely original* piece of music for the showreel, which I came across while cleaning up the projects drive.

* Strictly speaking, there was one sample in there:

Cassandra Wilson Hacked - Again

Cw_hacked
I originally sampled this over a year ago and threw together the initial idea. Then, of course, my attention span expired (15 minutes). I published it as it was and moved on to something else.

At the time I had a couple of people asking to download it. 'But it's total shit' I thought to myself.

It samples Cassandra Wilson's 'I Want More': http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FADc1zsVYRQ

Also a very obvious and cliched misuse of Dupree's 'Brass Disc' acapella, can't really go wrong with overuse of this vocal, the original track being so massive: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t0DyIXUgP-o

Glitched!

Slovo Hacked

I like this song, but it had to be hacked. It became some bubblegum ambient electronica shit:

Florence and the Machine Hacked II

Florence_hacked_2
This is 5 minutes of an idea that I know I will never find time to develop any further, so here is another half-baked hacked track.

I was listening to Florence's Rabbit Heart and was convinced there was stuff in there to make another track out of. I played around with a few parts of it and created this. The whole thing is made from slivers of the sampled loops which have been mangled with using Maschine, the only additional sounds being the drums.

It'll tear the shit out of laptop speakers, so be careful, you need a pimped rig to cope at full volume:

This was an earlier bit of a groove I made from the same samples:

I came up with the bulk of this idea a while ago but not had much time to develop it and what with my attention span, I'm pretty much over it... But I think there's some kind of goodness in there somewhere. I took Florence's 'Falling', did some mangling to it and came up with this:

Free Vinyl Record Scrape Sound Effect

Analogueisnow
There is no good/free sound effect anywhere in the world of quickly taking the needle off a record and scraping it across the record when doing so... I know because I checked the internet for about 45 seconds for it earlier. However, this slapstick sound effect can enhance every single project, and should be considered a core part of every production studio's toolbox.

I had to go ahead and make this thing myself... and seeing as I like to give back, here is a high quality WAV file containing a few variants of this classic sound, completely free to use for absolutely any useage. Hope to see it overused and exploited as far as possible. Click on download to steal the file.

First Choice Salsoul Classic Hacked

Sitting Pretty. It's a sad, poor, unfinished, gratuitous piece of sampling, like how they do it iN-THE=CHARTS.

Sigur Ros and Robyn hacked in two-for-the-price-of-one blowout...

Sr-robyn_hacked
Yo, word up.

As a weekend special I diced and infused an instrumental section from Sigur Ros 'Gong Endir' (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X-5_2Y8PeA8) with a vocal snippet provided by Robyn (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QqA5pgpi6zo)... I threw this stuff into the meat pulveriser/blender Maschine, added some sauce, and it became:

More Hacked Muzak

Quality Some stuff from the archives of hacking, prior to the invention of Maschine.

Jungle Brothers 'I'll House You' hacked [2006]:

Kelis 'Milkshake' hacked [2005] (many said her voice should be removed completely, though that would make it more an actual original piece of muzak and not a true hack=fail):

There are more crimes against music I am responsible for, though fortunately the wealth of pseudonyms involved means it highly unlikely I shall ever be held accountable.

Peace.
